Pulled the old girl out of the shed today.

Battery is flat.

Carbs are leaking.

She doesn’t want to start.

Callum, mate, you wouldn't have it any other way!

So a bit of an update on the old girl.

Carbs removed, cleaned, put back (using the number plate method), still leaked, off again, cleaned again, back on, yay no severe leaks.

Battery, I had to do the connect in parallel thing with another battery, to get it to take a charge.

It isn’t great but it is better.

The bike starts, yay.

Runs a bit fluffy, but runs, so I will take that, up into the loft to find a replacement Speedo cable.

Re grease the pitted steering head bearings.

A squirt or two of WD in a few place and we are getting there.

Six months tax bought today, so a gentle spin may be on the cards.

maybe to the shire, to help Scullion?

You can demonstrate your number plate technique to me?😛

Jolly well done - that's proper progress.

I'll be onto mine again after a vile working frenzy this weekend.

With all due respect, i'd sincerely fucking hope not!:D

You're taking your jolly name in vain, so stop being so jolly cheeky or you'll get jolly jack tarred & feathered!*

*that's what your wife would do, yes?

Well the battery trick didn’t work, it takes a charge, but won’t hold it.

Which is bloody annoying.

My own fault I didn’t use the bike or charge the battery over winter.

i couldn't possibly criticise - about to throw another engine in the hawk having grenaded the original at cadwell and i've charged the battery only twice since then.

Shake down run today, a few niggles, but no dramas.

Very fluffy when hot in town, which is odd as it didn’t do that last year pre LDR.

Greasing the headstock bearings has made them better but not right yet, discs are warped at the front, so some hard braking in order to sort that.

Was it actually overheating or just a fluffer?

I'm biased but disc brake warpage is a distinct nono. Noone will mind at all if you get better discs.

The coolant temperature sensor is broken, so this is the likely candidate for the gauge not registering.

Off to the spares pile.

Went to Croydon. The rain that started in Bristol died down.
All A roads.
Went onto reserve at 120 miles (last year it was 135 to reserve) and the LDUGPZ900R didn’t run right after.
Just a bit hesitant.
Coming back, went onto reserve again, at 110 miles, as the heavens opened and she really struggled. Limped into a petrol station and filled up, still not 100%.
Water in the electrics???
Got home, put the bike away and changed my clothes.
My waterproof boots are not waterproof.
My all season gloves, nope, cold wet hands.
Arai, how come my head got wet???
Working away a bit next week so time to pause and evaluate.

Oh and Scullion @hawkati I stayed south of the M4, not in the posh bit of the shire.

Getting concerned about fuel consumption, I brimmed the tank at Chievley, it is well over half gone at home 60 miles later.

Usual subjects? Clean air filter? What color plugs? Oil level as the fuel tap can go Pete tong on these

New air filter will put me over budget.

I will revisit the plugs etc when back home (working away).

Oil was changed, for some quality Halfords sale stuff.

I did a leak down and compression test last year and, I think, number 2 pot was well down and blew by the rings.

she did 135 miles on 18 litres last year,    so 33 ish mpg, down to 27.5 now, but also last year I filled up at Lowestoft and once on the way back to Grantham.

so I can work a 75 to 100 mile fill up routine.
