Wet tyres

I'm looking at getting my first set of wets for trackday and i' been looking on ebay, but all the sizes are totaly diffrent to normal road sizes. The tyres on my bike are 190/50 back and 120/70 front, so what size wets should i use

get them from someone like AR racing and ask their advice. They know what they are talking about.

or try manufacturers websites for the data, for example AVON do some 'trackday' wets which might be an idea since they will probably last more than one session

they only do a 180/55, or 160/60 rear, so choice made.

Not all tyres from all manufacturers are the same....

The 180 relates to the width, it being measured in mm. The difference between one manufactures 180 and another could easy be 15mm either way. Wets tend to run a flatter profile so its a little more progressive in turn in. A more pointed profile would cause quick turn in which could easy cause an off.

I'd use the brand your running now if your happy with them.

Personally i like the dunlop wets, though i think bridgestone and pirelli are doing a similar pattern now too. The front is a ladder pattern and the rear is a set of strips down the middle and a slightly angled groove on the side. These patterns last longer in a drying track and wont chew up as quick. Also means your more likely to get some used wets on ebay in this pattern. If your plan is used wets make sure the edges are sharp or they wont work as well.

To my mind, Bridgeston make the best wets, 120/600/17 = 120 / 70/17 and 165/620/17=165/60/17 or a 180/640/17 = 180/60ish/17. same diametre as a 190 /50 or 55 (ish) but slightly narrower, ie cuts thru standing water a bit better.

Pirelli make a 120/ 70 and this pairs with a 190/60 rear, these are not too shabby either.

The Avon is harder wearing but not as grippy.

In a 20 min track day session in the wet you'll hardly notice any wear, if it was to dry out suddenly, you do have the choice, 'mash mi tyres or pull in' in a race you don't really have this choice.
