Don't know if this is the right place  or would it be better in general  ? Over the last couple of years there seems to be a change to the established bike dealer system going on , a few major players making big confident moves , the newest one being a massive one opening in Coventry soon , people's thoughts or experiences?

Is the Coventry opening a brand new dealership or a takeover/change of premises?

The Coventry store is a new dealership, as said it’s been done before by numerous companies and they’ve all gone to the wall, pile it up and sell it cheap works for a while but you end up being busy fools with high stock turnover and tiny margins.

worked out well for carnell's and motorcycle city.............

They were a large chain rather than large stores. Also collateral damage from the RBS fiasco more than anything else.

Are the established dealers keeping their existing premises or are they shutting them to progress this store creating, what would effectively be, Kawasaki Warwickshire?

And yes, piling high and selling cheap might work for items like baked beans in household name supermarkets, but not when you're selling Kawasaki motorcycles.

Some big names involved with that one , piling high ? Dealer's have been moaning about the lack of stock for the last few years so i cant see them selling cheap either . Some of these firms are chucking quite a few bob back into the sport as well,  support the people that support the sport etc .

Agree on the stocking problems. My comment was more generalised with regard to how we have seen the 'low price, high turnover' model used in the past. I'm not a fan. George White, anyone?

Instead, build value into your product/service, look after your customers, under promise and over deliver. Charge a price to reflect that.

The bike shops around here are dominated by two big dealerships. The stores aren’t huge but they have several on both sides of the city / river, and cover most brands.  It’s not great that they have so much control, but it has it’s good sides, being able to ride the H2 SX SE into 1 store and go to the next store and ride out on the new Busa at a very competitive price is something the smaller independents couldn’t do or match.

I supported a stand alone single store for many years, but they aren’t doing well. With Suzuki’s decline they went to putting the Suzukis in a side room and selling Ducati’s, KTM’s, Can-Am’s or anything else that would keep the wolf from the door.
