Appreciate the help with the link! My first post so had no idea how to hyperlink it

Maybe adding a hyperlink can be past of your coursework? Is there a unit dedicated to the PBmagforum? I should hope so.

Hello all,

I am a final year university student looking to create a tool for motorcycle riders and owners. If anyone has 5 minutes spare, could you kindly fill in my questionnaire

Questionnaire link here

cheers

The links to the two forms you mention don't link to anything, and they can't be copied and pasted (on a mobile ph. at least) so I can't access them.

I've answered your questions.

I've got one of these, although mine was made by @kanerdog1x1 of this Parish many moons ago.

I've got one of those, never used it though. The rearsets or the exhaust are in the way. And removing rearsets or an exhaust to adjust a chain seemed a bit to much hassle to me.

I've just bought one of those laser things and use that instead.

well.... not quite, I had to check back because I couldn't remember but @kanerdog1x1 made it for me back at the start of 2012

And it's still going strong, very handy it is too.

I realise it only measures from swingarm pivot to rear wheel, rather than front wheel to rear wheel, but it's quick and convenient.

I've not had that problem with mine.  @kanerdog1x1 designed the pointers to be long for clearance, and it worked.

But I would agree, if I had, it would be too much hassle.

Done.

Any chance we can see some results?

As well as the tool development?

Good luck with it.

Thanks for answering, it’s a project that will run into 2021, but once completed I can show you the final product along with some prototypes as I go along 👍🏻

Hello all,

Just a small update on this project; I will attach a photo of a basic prototype render and I need a bit of feedback for a few of the elements.

firstly, which style of knob do you prefer (1,2,3 or 4)

secondly, which colour would you like to see for the knobs and other smaller details

thirdly, for reference, is a baked bean can a good size fit in your hand so that I can work out an average size for the knobs

(the feet are all height adjustable and the rails allow a ruler to slide up and down to measure the distance difference on either side of the front tyre, and the bike is secured in place with a nut and bolt through the back wheel)

any feedback is much appreciated

cheers

I know I shouldn't say it, sorry, but

@fastfreddybikes should be answering all this 🤔

Edit, I will actually be sensible as well, so I presume the scale of this isnt fully finalised, as for example, someone who owned say a ducati diavel with its wide 240 rear tyre, is possibly unlikely to have enough on those front tabs to be able to extend in towards the front tyre so that it touched, if I am looking at this idea correctly, or just being a total fukwit?

I reckon the ribbed option is probably best on the knob front

can confirm you're not being a fukwit, scale is not fully finalised, currently working out some dimensions and will update everyone once this is done but for purposes of the render I wanted something simple to give people and idea of how it would work. cheers for the feedback 👍

hello everyone,

I know it has been well overdue but I was not satisfied with the final product.

I will show my final product and a few detailed pictures of what my university allowed me to create in a two week span instead of 8 weeks.

the rendered photograph will show my final idea and the photos will show a 1 metre version instead of a 2 metre version which could be used on all motorbikes.

each corner of the product is designed to be height adjustable and so can be used on any bike, along with the holes on the rear portion so any length bike can be placed in the rear portion. In short, there rear wheel is clamped between the rear portion and then the front wheel is measured at each corner to determine how far off the alignment is at the back wheel, any questions are welcome. cheers

Hasn't all this been done before? Maxton have been selling the 'ronometer' for years, I made my own from 2 bits of box section alu and some stud bar... Or if you want to make life easier, get some lasers on the job.

Much easier to transport too and checks more things.
