The 2nd of Jan is a public holiday in NZ, the port in Nelson at the top of the south island is shut for the day. One application for road closure, mass send out of entry forms, gathering of volunteers to set up crash barriers later and there is a full day's racing: The Port Nelson Street Races, gotta love road racing - you can't get closer to the action than this unless you're in Ireland or at the TT!
