thefatman
Just get the powder coaters to do it. If they cant then i'd find another place who can. Also, are they magnesium? If so i'd think about getting them done by Dymag as they need a special coating on them before powder coating.

Funny old chestnut thats what they might tell you, but in actual fact its just a Chromate primer, as apposed to chromate free (carbon fibre primer) Hmmm you could could be right after all!!!!!! its just that iv'e blown the lid on this case! dizzyr1
Oh and fatman hit the nail on the head withthe "let them do it!" no problems with the process if its done right first time, would avoid paint stripper due to ingress, and could cause a reaction halfway through the job! If they cant strip them, they probably cant paint them either! And there is nothing more annoying than a job that has already been prepped,,, followed by hours of sorting it!!!!!!! so that it is prepped! so i guess whats being said is, let them strip them and coat them, all responsibility lies with them to make sure its pukka, and if they do a mint job, and i'm certain they will (if they do the whole process ) your a winner If they fuck up, its ALL their fault and nobody elses. But thats not going to happen.
Bernster
I'm in the process of getting my PVM's done and certainly WON'T be trusting powder coating companies to do things properly that's for sure. Even the likes of LapTab can make mistakes. I've known of set's coming back from large powder coating, motorcycle wheel specialists and the shot blasting has taken enough material out of bearing seats to render them useless. I've also known the same customers to have EVERY threaded hole and recess be covered in powder coating and thus make re-seating of discs, bearings and the like requiring professional turning by an engineering firm in a lathe, (yes that much powder coating was used). This time I'm going to get mine sprayed. If your sprayer knows what he's doing a good level of layers of appropriate spray paint properly applied is as good as powder coating without the depth and baking. I'll see how much paint needs removing from mine, (having them the same colour) - and if it all needs to come off I'll get them chemically dipped, although NOT if they're magnesium. A friend of mine had some Marchesini magnesium wheels dipped and they came back 50% lighter

addiction269
yeah last time i had some things coated they didnt cover any threads etc and it made a hard job worse when re-fitting the engine and swingarm etc and it ended up cracking the coating around where i had to clean up the thread. johnnymack63
I picked up my wheels from Triple-S in Bingley yesterday. I dropped off the most disgusting part polished, part painted blue, part painted green and part furry with early corossion wheels from my ZXR. They did all the prep, blanked off everything and produced what I can only describe as a flawless finish in the exact Kawasaki Green. Very highly recommended. They've speialised in powder coating bike stuff for 24 years.

My ZXR wheels were still covered in chain lube, grease and Kawasaki's finest flaking lime green and they sorted it all out. As Johhnymack says flawless, all bearing seats and threads cleaned up to perfection so the new bearings, new discs and Pro-Bolt titanium loveliness went on easy as you like. 2 smokes 4 ever
Redditch shotblasting will sort you out here they have a couple of sets of wheels for me and the finish is like glass they mask of the disc faces and threads to stop them getting coated BUT, as said above, if they're mag, then send them to someone who really knows what they're doing as mag is porous I believe and needs to be sealed

Indeed Triple S did ALL my powder coating....VERY good, I can recommend them....all threads and bearing recesses were spotless. And their black is a beautiful Jet Black.....I've seen alot done by others, that looks smokey and a bit poo.
