RonniB
You only grease the dust seals, if red rubber grease or silicon grease gets on the hydralic seals, then the pistons won't retract when pressure is off the caliper=knackered discs. but you can run with out them.. Superdunc
You can get away without them (I had to as a stop-gap between discovering the dust seals were crap and getting paid), but you might want to fill the void with grease (that red rubber grease stuff or other rubber-compatible stuff I think). By all means run with out the dust seals, but please don't put grease, red rubber or other wise anywhere near the rest. You only need the lightest smear of rubber grease to aid assembly, any more than that and the brake dust and road dirt sticks to it like shit to a blanket, and fubars everything in short order.
