szrdave Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 The rear brake light switch has gone on the falco, so while the footrest is off I've split it and cleaned everything up. Before reassembly, what type of grease should I use for: Brake lever pivot? Peg pivot? Ball/socket joint to rear master cylinder (with no rubber boot)? Edit to add: I've used lithium grease in the past, but it tends to attract dirt and grit and turn into a manky paste
bezzer Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 It's not meant for metal to metal contact but there is minimal movement/wear issues in those bits so try some Silicone grease. Lot cleaner than Lithium and the like,
Dan Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 anusol Dave trust me its what Fueline would suggest!
szrdave Posted February 18, 2012 Author Report Posted February 18, 2012 anusol Dave trust me its what Fueline would suggest! So that's why there was lithium grease in his bathroom cabinet Have used a small amount of copper grease on reassembly. As bezzer said wear shouldn't be an issue, it just something to stop bits seizing up, and hopefully the copper grease will stay where it's meant to.
VanWinkle Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 I'll 2nd the use of a smidgen on copaslip, as well as being an anti-seize compound it also has anti-corrosive properties.
ronenige Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Silicone grease is an excellent suggestion , copper grease is NOT a lubricating medium , it is an assembly compound , Never ever ever use it on any thing for lubrication
