Swearing in thread titles is a no-go. - Nude or pornographic images. - Trolling*, or deliberate fishing for reaction. - Use of multiple accounts for the purpose of questionable forum activity. gregtrx Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Would my "Guy who made me fail my test is a GENT" thread get banned on here? Or do you mean bad language as in poor use of apostrophies, consitant bed Spooling or Grammer THat isn't gud lol.???!?!
Monkey Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 Excessive swearing such as GENT, tit, twat, wank, fucktard, pissflaps etc will not be tolerated once the swear filter is switched on, sometime later this week, when I get round to finding the fucking thing.
gregtrx Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Why not? It's not like this forum is aimed at preteens or summat. I'd agree that excessively swearing at someone is agressive but say, for example, someone has their bike nicked then they may feel that they need to call the thieving scum sucking dick fucks need to be called GENTS, or something. And I like swearing, it can be very funny.

tanuki Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 can I make a suggestion that you either block or at least put a limit on the amount that people can put in a sig, already I have seen on this forum memebers with fahoooooking maaahhhooooosive sigs and it just looks messy and shit, if you aint carefull it will end up looking like VD did and that looked shit.

Surely there either *is* swearing or there is not. Some people get offended much more easily than other GENTS, innit? The .com forum had it about right, IMO but, of course, once it became common knowledge how to get round the gent filter it soon settled down anyway. Fuck it - if the BBC can show comedy shows to the genral population where it's OK to say "fuck" then we should be able to as well. This ain't PB-USA so I don't want swearing, nipples or blasphemy banned "in case it could corrupt". If the moderators think a post is too sweary then they can edit it, can't they? (But I'd like to think it'd have to be an agreed decision by 2 or more moderators before any editing took place, to ensure it's not too swift) Dave
heds954 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Shut it, wanker. charmin'... ...y'gobshite!!
james_christ Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 This ain't PB-USA so I don't want nipples or banned nipples have corrupted me on many an occasion...
Monkey Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 You're all big boys and I'm confident that you lot will find your own natural balance like you did on the old site. If it's excessive but funny, it'll stay. If it's not funny and is overly aggressive, the mods will use their discretion and prune it, or not. Easy, innit? At the moment, there's not that actually that many words on the swear filter and unless things take a drastic turn for the worse and we're inundated with complaints, then that's how it'll stay.
gregtrx Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Ah, good, so swearing for comedy value is still ok. Unless my jokes are shit...

Mentioned elsewhere, but can you please take Superbike out of the swear filter. Whilst it may seem amusing, we're far more likely to be talking about Superbike as a type of motorcycle than we are as another motorcycle mag.
TKDMitch Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) A point Ben_ raised elsewhere. Quoting pms is bad form Does that depend on what is said in them? Bullying/threats for example? If Kropotkin starts sending me intimidating messages then shouldn't I feel free to raise it? If Gretchensghost sends me pics of him in the nuddy in the muddy with the hippos again, can't I mention it? Or does it all have to go through mods? I'm not posting this to have a go at Ben_ at all, please don't think that chap, I may agree with your post; but at the same time I can see the problems with that, and if someone types something into the internet, via post or PM surely they have to accept it may become public? Tomfoolery Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Tricky one there, Mitchie. I'd say that if I sent something via PM, I'd want it to be kept between myself and the recipient. If I wanted it public, I'd post it on the open forum. Just my point of view.
Rainer Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Tricky one there, Mitchie. I'd say that if I sent something via PM, I'd want it to be kept between myself and the recipient. If I wanted it public, I'd post it on the open forum. Just my point of view. Hmm. It is a tricky one, but IMO it depends on the nature of the PM. If I'd written someone a message confessing to calling myself Martha and cross dressing at weekends I'd be pretty upset if it was made public. However if I'd threatened, bullied someone or demonstrated gentish behaviour via PM (relying the receiver to keep it quiet due to it being on it being poor form to reveal) - well it would be in everyone's interest to know what an arse I was, wouldn't it?

That's where the Moderator team should be informed and it dealt with privately, still not in the public eye, IMO.
james_christ Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 i'd like to see a rule about having only work safe thread titles. i think the contents of threads are fair game in a warning is given, i don't want the top of the front page saying F*$& F$£"!$ when my boss walks by.
