id be looking for someone with tig welding capabilitys, not like you can run one up with a mig, might also be cheaper if you supply the material too. yell.com is your best bet followed up by phone calls to your nearest specialist welders. where are you in the world some one on here might be able to point you in the right direction then

This bloke can. I'm about to go round and pick up my exhaust from him, he's been doing some welding on a link pipe for me, patched up a valve hole and moved some brackets about, but he does all sorts of stuff for all sorts of applications. He's based in either Burnley or Skipton (well both places, if you see what I mean), so obviously visiting him isn't going to be easy for you, so I'd either give him an original to work off as a template or get some very specific drawings made up. His rates are very competetive, but I wouldn't even begin to guess what a whole exhaust would cost so I'll let you get in touch with him. Take a look in a thread called 'calling titanium welders' a few posts down, there's a little discussion on why it's not just your normal tig welders sort of thing.

I'd be wary of making a spanny from Ti, as I understand it they can't take the vibrations inherent in a two stroke exhaust and end up splitting. They tried it on GP bikes for a while but they only had to hold together for 40 mins or so and were often changed from track to track. They still ended up covered in welds from being lashed back together, I've heard stories of F.Spencer loosing races because of the bellys of the pipes splitting ruining the power.

Also the resonant properties of the material used makes a difference to the exhaust design, you can buy lomas pipes for an RD in stainless or mild steel and the mild ones will make more power. If it's trick looks you're after then get a set of stainless ones, if it's performance then get a set of thin mild steel ones (0.8mm or so) and leave them bare to check for cracks regularly. Rub them with wire wool and duck oil to keep the corrosion at bay.

I haven't actually got any 1st hand experience with Ti pipes though :eusa_whistle: so should you find someone who can make them cheap and they don't split then let me know...

1 word: Inconel....

I got my link pipe off the guy linked to above this morning, and the quality of the work's superb, you can tell the guy's main line of work is in aerospace, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him if he can sort out what you want.
