Fork seal nightmare!

Callahan

Recommended Posts

Right Guys, I've just replaced the LHS Fork Seal on my trusty GSXR600K1 only to find it leaking again!

I don't have a Seal Driver and used the old PVC pipe trick to drive it home (or so I thought). Any tips, tricks, advice?

The leg itself isn't damaged at all so I can't understand why it would be leaking? Do I need to hit it harder?... :dribble:

as long as it is seated and you can get the circlip in then it is in!

Did you use cheap seals?

Is the oil level/airgap correct?

Was everything nice and clean on re-assembly?

Did you catch the seal putting it over the stantion?

Thanks for the reply Gregorious,

Yeah that's what I thought, hence my disappointment!

Did you use cheap seals?

Nippon. What should I be using? If you can recommend a brand I'll give them a go.

Is the oil level/airgap correct?

Checked my manual and did it by the book.

Was everything nice and clean on re-assembly?

Yep.

Did you catch the seal putting it over the stantion?

Pretty sure I didn't!

Other things that can make seals leak are worn bushes, is there any play in the assembly at all?

Not sure on brands for seals but I wouldnt buy cheap ebay shite.

Never had a problem with any I have fitted and I use the plastic pipe method too but put the old seal on top of the new one to protect it as you drive it in.

plastic bag over the fork top,or celotape to cover the top bush as this can nick the seal on the way down, and i always youse the best seals you can as cheep is shit, and not worth the hassel.
