Doug_R1 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 I ran my '99 R1 exclusively on Motul 5100, oil and oem filter change at 8,000 mile intervals. It was showing just over 80,000 miles when it got written off, and was running perfectly, despite me never having got around to checking the valve clearances, oops. MonkeyJim Posted June 9, 2010 Report Share Posted June 9, 2010 I ran my '99 R1 engine on silkolene fully synth, it got up to about 35,000 miles without a problem. [ignoring recent problems caused by the fucking garage Gents ] I changed the oil & filter more often than I needed to, it was done at least every 4000 miles or minimum of twice a year, depending on trackdays and european trips. the valve clearances were checked at 25,000 and none needed doing. Never had any problems with clutch slip using fully synth. I've just put some of Silkolene's finest in the replacement engine. It's red, like blood, which is nice.
