Harvey Mushman
Whats the best stuff for cleaning off the white grease type stuff that comes on brand new chains or is it best left on there? Rode the 10 miles home after having a new chain and sprocket fitted and the chain has flung the grease everywhere!

Harvey Mushman
White spirit or turps, then re-lube. Is it OK for X-ring chains? Won't damage the seals or whatever?
Bravecat
It will be fine. just dont soack the chain. I usually use a stiff paint brush and dry it with a bar towel, then squirt with fresh chain lube. Is it OK for X-ring chains? Won't damage the seals or whatever? Thom_1991
Cause im cheap i have a steel chain which if left to its own devices rusts so every so often i just rub some chainsaw oil onto the sideplates to stop it rusting and let my chain oiler keep it lubed
Tomfoolery
Petrol. Cut-down paintbrush is good for scrubbing, then lube it good. *smirk*
