peter30 Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Right then, need some idea of where to go on main jet sizes. Bike has ivans performance needles(1 notch below standard height) and currently 122 mains in, with full Akra system = 140 BHP I'm fitting a pipercross airfilter and still have a selection of standard mains (130) and needles, which I may stick back in.(My other bike is standard and makes 135 ish) Has anyone got any other ideas for this sort of set up. I will stick it on the rolling road again, just want to avoid unnecessary wasted time by being in the right area to start with (I have heard of 126 mains in a dynojet kitted bike making similar performance). Any one got a base set up I can l copy, please.
banoffee Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 The DJ fitting kits are usually helpful for close-ish first guesses however the R1 one talks about retaining the EXUP. Might be worth a geek if you haven't already: http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/4164.pdf
MonkeyJim Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Pete sadly I haven't got a clue, I had mine re-jetted by a specialist and have no idea about jets, needles and ting. many people [including Ivan himself] advocate sticking with the original filter, rather than a race jobby. Apparently lots of people have problems with K&N ones in particular, though it worked perfectly fine in mine. can only suggest you have a look on http://www.r1-forum.com/ which can be a good source of info. There is another really good site at http://yzf-r1forum.net/ but it doesn't appear to working at the mo...
peter30 Posted March 10, 2010 Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 Cheers fellas I'm not sure if there isn't a mini project here. The airbox looks quite restrictive, maybe there is some benefit in cutting it about a bit as well(if anyone as a spare one I'm happy to try it anyway!) The ivan's thing is a bit puzzling really. They supply a set of 132.5 jets with the kit, but they were way too big, in conjunction with a standard filter. There is no way that a standard filter stays in place for a race bike so it can't make it worse if you fit an aftermarket performance one... A less restrictive filter allows more air in, which you try and match with fuel to maintain a decent mixture and create any increase in power(can't make more power without more fuel/oxygen), at least in theory Maybe I should pm Foo and ask about his games with the carbs/pressurised air box etc.
