V4 Heaven Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Hi all, The bearing on the bottom of the shock on my R1 needs replacing and it'snot listed on the parts catalogue. Haven't rung the dealer yet but I bet they say it's not available if they can't find it in the parts catalogue. Has anyone here replaced theirs? Cheers.
Doug_R1 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 You've got a 12 year old R1 shock? Unless it's been revalved then I'd say the best bet was to buy a replacement off Ebay. It looks like a pressed in rubber bush, so if you knew the size then it shouldn't be too hard to find something that would fit. I'd phone a suspension specialist and see what they recommend, they must come across this problem all the time.
will#224 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 If its a needle bearing then use 2 sockets of appropriate size to press it out in a vice then take it to BSL. They will size it for you and it'll be half the price of Yamaha
V4 Heaven Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 I think I've answered my own question. The bearing is exactly the same as the one on the link so I can pick them up from a Yam dealer or specialist like will mentioned. They're needle roller bearings with a metal collar so I'll be fitting some of them. The shock's off 'cos it's going for a revalve so you must have read my mind! Cheers.
