holty 225
I`ve just got 1988 cbr600 which i`m having trouble starting. The battery has been on the Optimate and seems good, the engine spins over well but it won`t fire, if i jump it off my van it will fire up after about 20 seconds and runs fine. I ran it for about 15 minutes and i switched it off, then tried to start it again with no joy. Has anyone got any advice before i start spending cash on stuff i may not need? Cheers. Make sure the battery contacts are clean and tight. When you connect jump leads you usually grip onto the cables as well as the battery posts, so it could be that enough power isn't getting from the battery to the one of the main leads. DAMO666
You probably need to do a compression check to get an idea of the overall condition of the motor, even if its low might just be tight valve clearances.
holty 225
Cheers guys, contacts are ok so i`ll throw some new plugs in it and give it a compression test while i`m at it. I`ll let you know how it goes.
Evilchicken0
give the carbs a clean - it won't do any harm, and renew / clean any fuel filters. But plugs would be the first bet, followed by the battery. Then the charging circuit including the Reg Rec - it's a honda afterall.
