Head_Down_Bum_Up Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 Evening oh mighty PB Forum. I am after some advice/guidance. The carbs on my GSXR 1100 are currently off the bike as I discovered it was running very rich the last time I rode (September 2023 😢) and it’s been sat in the garage ever since. I believe that this was more down to it having sat around for most of last year and the fuel gumming things up. I am planning a strip, clean and rebuild of the carbs before the necessary balancing and victorious ride to celebrate my technical accomplishments…getting ahead of myself there. So…the bike has standard headers, standard airbox & filter but aftermarket exhaust cans. Is that enough of a change to require a Stage 1 jet kit or would the standard jets be ok? Carbs are new to me as I’ve only ever had bikes with FI. I would greatly appreciate any advice/tips/guidance you might be able to provide. Quote
TLRS Posted November 15 Report Posted November 15 Strip clean and rebuild sound like a wise move with carbs and today's fuel. Wouldn't worry much about any jetting just jet. Wear might cause rich running so who knows what you will find. What you could do beforehand is dipping a cotton swab in penetrating fluid and dip any bolts you can reach. Float bowl and air screws, that kind of thing. Might save you some grief later. 1 Quote

Problem is, all these carbs are 40years old now and well worn, plus you don't know who's been in there before you and changed stuff. Get a manual and strip and check everything. Diaphrams split, needles wear, things get gummed up. You need to start from a known base line. https://oldskoolsuzuki.info/forums/ Join up here and have look around. There is a wealth of information there, and if you can't find it, ask politely and there will a cantankerous but knowledgeable old fucker who will be able to help you out. 1 1 Quote

Thanks @Superdunc I’ve got a pdf’d version of the original Suzuki workshop manual so will dive into that and get on to the other forum also 👍 Quote
