gregtrx
My local car garage up the road has managed to bash the stuck bolts out of my swingarm on the scooter and I need new ones. The bolts are high tensile M8 x 30 and M8 x 40 countersunk (thread pitch 1.25). I can get replacements easy enough with the same recessed hex in but I'm wondering if there's a fastner out there like a wheel bolt which has the counter sink on it but a bolt head so I can use a socket. If these exist what are they called does anyone know?
Evilchicken0
I guess if you have a fully threaded flange bolt you could have a filler piece turned to fit.
blow_away
Get some of these Gman http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/pro51-6-pce-38in-drive-hex-bit-set or if you need smaller size hex http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/pro50-6-pce-14in-drive-hex-bit-set Here's a quick little guide to the nomenclature. It helps make life easier if you know the correct name for the type of bolt you are after http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/Ref_Glossary.html http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/Reference.html
gregtrx
Cheers Al, I'm not too bad on fastners but I've never seen a lug-nut style bolt and thought if they were available they'd make it easier to get the thing off next time I need a tyre change. I've bought some of the standard csk bolts in high tensile as they're usually more hard wearing than the stainless. It's always going to be a pain as the countersink is in an ally part so it seizes over a large area. Good call on getting some decent hex drivers too. VeeTeeArr
If you were desperate you could drill through the head of the old countersunk bolt using a clearance drill for the thread size. You'll then have a countersunk spacer to use with a standard hex head bolt.
