Tzr421 - The Ultimate Sleeper?

hey fellas.

I just bought a custom built bike the other week which is almost complete.

The appeal of this bike if feel is in keep it looking modest so that nobody knows how much punch it has until its too late :)

the novelty of the sleeper bike may wear off eventually but for now I like the idea of the wolf in sheeps clothing with a razor sharp powerband that can keep up with a 600 supersport in a drag race..

Its a TZR 1KT/2MA chassis with a bored and stroked RD421 motor.

Its running a CPI 421 cub cylinder, hotrods 4mm stroker crank with 115mm rods, billet trinity stage 4 head with I beleive 21cc domes, billet barnett clutch, fully rebuilt bottom end, Wiseco pistons with ceramic domes and low friction skirts, 36mm PWK airstriker carbs, custom pipes, carbon airbox, VF3 reeds, straight intakes, hand made radiator, industrial teflon coated crank cases, CNC'd engine side covers ... the list goes on and on and on.

Pretty much all I need to do now is strip out the wiring loom and install the ignitech which came with the bike, install the two stroke shop flywheel, stator, stator plant and pickup, a bypass thermostat, upgrade the suspension via cartridge internals, upgrade the brakes via blue spot r6 caliper and a brembo radial MC, I might even try to fit my spare 3ma swingarm into the bike if its a straight swap, and finally some sticky tyres.

oh and some bigger/longer silencers so I can get it road registered.

Here she is:

That's a lovely bit of kit mate, sounds 'angry'! I've been looking for a cheap TZR to build into something similar, but I suppose I should finish rebuilding my RS257 first! Are you going to refit the fairing or did they come unfaired in Oz? What's happening with the two stroke shop? The last I heard, there was all sorts of shit going on! Looking forward to regular updates, and a dyno curve!

Definitely get the 257 going first mate! Will be a good bike when done.

Yeah it originally had a fairing but not any more, I might put one on in the future but want to get her going first.

I think a fucking mental power curve will be a given haha

Two stroke shop have 'restructured' and are now selling Athena 421 kits and motors. All the info on that is on the aprilia forum.

i saw that for sale, a bit of steel wool down the mufflers will get it through a road worthy & a bit of pin it in 4th will remove said wool

I'm able to get a reply from Steve pretty promptly. But maybe it's because I'm a local haha.

The TSS is now doing 421 motors only that are very similar spec to mine accept they use athenacylinders which are more midrange biased than my cylinders.

I my motor is from two stroke shop before the whole saga went down

i had a couple of emails with the two stroke shop (a couple of years ago) & all i can say is they were not in a position to want to put a big bore stroker in a TZR 3xv or TZ frame for me & they could have taken my coin & stalled me, so i have nothing but a positive incounter with them...........................................

in saying that i take my 2 3xv engines to brizneeland next month & work starts on Mjolnir ..................i wish id taken up surfing instead

waiting for this bike is giving me ideas:

make a system which allows for a quick/easy bodywork swap from street fighter to TZ250 replica and back again for if I want to do trackdays on it.

But I think Ill be getting everything else sorted out first before cosmetics as Id rather have a bike that I can ride instead of one that sits in the shed for months on end.

lets not put a blade seat on  i have to say,you wont get a ktm fairing on,they are small.ive had the pleasure of poking around an ex red bull rookies bike in the flesh,i have some pics :D it had been a few years since i had my little honda rs and i had forgoten how small the 125's are.

only one way to find out for sure if its too small ;)

but at the same time there is a very nice TZR350 cafe racer on youtube that looks the buisness. all Id need would be some clip ons, a new tail section and some spoked wheels hahaha

too many bloody choices...

so untill I make up my mind Im just going to work on getting the engine suspension and brakes set up nicely with the aesthetics as-is for now

yes i used the RS 125 body work & it took some fitting........so many late nights. im going to give the 'blade seat a go, take a pie section out & have it shaping into a 'point' approx 100mm wide..........id just like someone to go through the heartache first

Got my box of goodies from the seller this week!

null-13.jpg

First off, I fitted the Two Stroke Shop dual pickup stator and flywheel

null-7.jpg

null-5.jpg

null-9.jpg

Only things left to do is waiting for some short counter sunk screws to turn up in the post to neatly (neater) mount it to the cases

Then ill need to get the side cover welded to the side plate (blue section) with a shaped piece of ally welded over the hole as I had to cut through both of them to fit this set up.

It was a bit of a butcher job, but once a patch is welded over the top to make it water tight it should look pretty good.

Ill probably consider getting both side covers repainted black to make it more of a 'sleeper'

null-11.jpg

Then in the next week or so il be wiring the bike up.

I got a few meters of 5 core wire today which should keep the loom very neat and tidy.

null-10.jpg

Then Ill start shopping for a new battery (lithium ion probably) and some new denso 'iridium racing' spark plugs which are no longer $50 each and more like $30 for two. thanks to a japanese online store :)

Should only be a month till she roars to life again, then I can move onto the suspension.
