Bilko! Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Can anyone confirm or deny the rumour that the fully synthetic oil manufacturers sell for 10 quid a litre, is exactly the same stuff they sell for 6 quid a litre. The only difference being it says "scooter" on the bottle?. Considering scoots spend most of their time on max throttle/revs it can't be any inferior can it ?.
gnarly Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Sounds interesting Bilko When I am paying nigh on 12 quid a liter for Motul 710 scooter oil half the price sounds great
Bilko! Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 I know the delivery bumps it up a bit, but on fleabay they still charge over a tenner plus postage for "proper " bike stuff. Surely this must be available locally like!. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PUTOLINE-TT-SCOOTER-...Q2em118Q2el1247
fontyyy Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 Anything that states API TC (API no longer maintain this rating), ISO-L-EGD and/or JASO FC (FD is just cleaner) has passed the highest standard tests there are. So indeed, something like Putoline TT scooter (about £7), Shell Advance Scooter Plus 2 (about £8) are as good if not better than anything you could have got when most of these bikes where new, something like Castrol ACT-EVO 2T (£3) is not. A buddy of mine did recommend Hein Gericke's own brand fully synth 2T oil, £30 for 5 litres.
daz350 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 Ive always used ROCK OIL PP2 SEMI in my rd for years tried fully synthetic but didnt run very well at full revs.Fine low and midd range but hesitate on long high speed runs
signor rossi Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 A buddy of mine did recommend Hein Gericke's own brand fully synth 2T oil, £30 for 5 litres. According to the local HG Distributor whom I asked for a spec-sheet of their oil, Hein Gericke full synth is actually being produced by Motul. So it can´t be all bad... Talking of scooter oils I can highly recommend Malossi´s 7.1 synthetic for road use in LCs. Clean head and piston crown and next to zero carbon build-up in the exhaust ports plus perfect scuff resistance, never had any seizures due to lubrication failures. Never trusted the autolube though, always premixed.
willbloke Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Interesting ! I have in front of me 2 bottles of oil. Castrol TTS @£13.99 /litre , and Castrol Scooter @£7.99 /litre. Both have API TC, JASO FD , ISO EGD , on the back of the bottle ???? The TTS has fully synthetic on the front , but that's the only apparent diference ! I've always wondered ?!?!?!?!?
Acid Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 noticed that too and run my Rs125 on castrol scooter for 2 years and never had a problem ever!!!!

So it can´t be all bad... Bought some of this after posting as I'd been meaning to do so for a while. Fully synth, top grade and £6.39 a litre, can't be bad.
WB-pb Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Bought some of this after posting as I'd been meaning to do so for a while. Fully synth, top grade and £6.39 a litre, can't be bad. I always thought that it looked and smelled a lot like Motul 710... I use it in all the smokers (road and track) now. Certainly seems to do what it's supposed to do, but I'm no expert on these things (or anything else in fact )
LCKeef Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Use Rock Synthesis 2 in both my old Lambretta and 350LC , no probs and under a tenner a litre.
willbloke Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I always thought that it looked and smelled a lot like Motul 710... I use it in all the smokers (road and track) now. Certainly seems to do what it's supposed to do, but I'm no expert on these things (or anything else in fact ) Is that the stuff that smells a bit Castrol R ish ? Lordy , I've got to get a stroker back on the road , I'm having to follow scooters to get my smoke fix ....
Stephenrc45 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Never used Motul personaly but have never had any trouble with Rock Synthesis 2 or Castrol A747. I tryed Bell Ray (sp?) and Castrol TTS but didn't like either of those.
Gobert23 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 I gave in and just started buying Silkolene (now Fuchs?) in 'bulk'... I've got a HUGE container of the stuff in the garage... Plenty to keep me going
fontyyy Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Is that the stuff that smells a bit Castrol R ish ? Maybe a bit but Castrol R has got a pretty unique smell, as has Castrol XR77, that and 50/50 avgas/unleaded in my race bike smell like no nomal oil/petrol combo, added to that it's just a load more smokey as it's 30/1 premix. Firing it up in on front yard is almost unsociable. Almost..............
rev-tech Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 i used to run Castrol TTS in my RS, never had any issues with it. i reckon it had a nice smell about it! geez, you guys pay a fortune for oil over there. i bought a 2L bottle once for like AUD$25! mind you the next week i saw the same stuff for AUD$70
nzknut Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 i run castrol TTS in my GP125 at 20:1.. makes the fuel blue and smells lovely, but not as nice as elf 2t.
racerd Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Use Rock Synthesis 2 in both my old Lambretta and 350LC , no probs and under a tenner a litre. this caused my mains bearings to be knackered
SHimmer45 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 used to use an oil called Sil 7 racing fully synth never any worries in my KR cant seem to find it anymore and it was around £8 a litre
