Kayla
Do any of you have a mid to late 90s, or early 00s YZ250? If so, would you mind awfully waving a tape measure in the vague direction of the rear engine/swingarm mounting point please? I'd like to know how wide the engine is across the mount, inside the swingarm
nzknut
What're you planning Kayla? I'm putting a CR250 engine with a 55horse go-kart tune in a KR1S next year

CRMotard
I think the width at the rear of the motor will be the least of your troubles your going to most likely have to make a sleeve and spacers (or top-hat bushes) as the yz250 will most likely be skinnier than the 600. or if its wider, you could always take a little bit of meat of the cases... check to make sure you can get away with it first before trying it. if your actually thinking about doing the project, why not grab a cheap set of cases first to make sure its doable... much more reliable to take measurements yourself than relying on other people to remember for you. then you can make your engine mounts while you hunt around for a really nice/cheap 250 motor http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-YZ250-YZ-250WR-1990-90-LEFT-RIGHT-CRANK-CENTER-CASES-/230705338849?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35b71c19e1#ht_2536wt_1185 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/96-01-Yamaha-YZ250-BOTTOM-END-ENGINE-CRANKS-CASES-250-2-Stroke-MOTOR-TRANY-/150700109709?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23166d2f8d#ht_3074wt_952 but yeah... the rear mount will be the least nightmarish part of the build... enjoy

Then if it's a no-go I can just sell the bike on.

CRMotard
just buy a bargain basket case and rebuild from the ground up... new bearings for whole motor 70 pounds crank rebuild with new rod 150 pounds new piston 70 pounds gaskets and seals 50 pounds labour to get the cases split and represses (if you dont have a press) -try to get one that has a half decent cylinder lining even if means asking before you buy, put down a deposit and say "well youve told me the cylinder coating is good so Ill take the head off and check, if its fine like you've said it is then consider it sold"
