afraid pics start a little way in due to the above

well a certain frame and bike maker turned jurno decided to refit this to my bike so as a precaution i decided to completely strip the bike and rebuild it incase any other horrors had been left un-dealt with

PA230042.jpg

had this completely failed it would have dumped the fairing onto my front wheel , not impressed

it was replaced with this

back end and engine goes back in . of course engine is subjected to a full stan stephens f2 tune , carbs are given an ultra-sonic clean via my £10 lidl cleaner that works a treat and then bored out to 31.5mm bowls and then re-cleaned .

now the jigsaw of parts its getting smaller but i have the bits i am not looking forward to most to do . repiping and bleading oil pump and brake lines and sorting out pv mountings and wiring loom . brakes have been stripped and bleaned are away for stoving . i intend to get the filters and engine , electrics plumbed in and then it goes for paint . i will fit brakes back on when it returns (i think) . you lot voted so i will be going with this

but i am retaining the 916 fairing for time being although if i do keep i will be going over to mk7 race fairing and single off set hdi conversion , bank account needs to replenish first though . plus i have at least 2 more projects that will probably jump in before i start swapping it about

Excellent, you certainly know how to do a good project.

Please tell me more about the ultrasonic cleaner. Ive been wanting to get my carbs done for a while, but they have a very grubby/tarnished/stained oily finish. How good of a job do they do? I was thinking along the lines of aqua-blasting first...

Ultrasonic cleaners are pretty good , it's basically an electric ladies friend attached to a tin pot . The vibrations loosen the dirt without scouring the surfaces of the materials so ideal for carbs . As I say I paid about a tenner for mine last Christmas from lidl's and it has paid for itself time and time again . I tend to use whatever solvents are to hand , any kind of degreasing agent . The more time you use it for the better the result , will it remove varnish from carbs yup pretty well but expect it to take a while

piss with no manual and no real pics of how the bike went together setting up the powervales was a wanking nightmare (considering it should have taken about 40mins)

thanks for the comments , as usual life , the kids, wife , drinking and other bikes are continuing to keep this build slow but thorough . right need a set of filters for the thing as it obviously runs no air box , check rg500.com and ebay ,shit me £230 for some foam , wow people are stupid . so out with the hacksaw . first i got hold of some standard carb feeder pipes and sawed the fuckers in half

personaly i have always had doubt about placing carb filters in direct airflow without some kind of plenum chamber . so chop chop a quick clean up with some emery paper and into the trusty dishwasher . oh my bloody sonic cleaner busted can't complain 18 months use cost me a tenner from lidl .

next thanks to you guys i found some sheets of filter foam from ramair who were realy helpful on the phone . 2 sheets of a3 and some glue came to about £20 inc post so was happy with that .
