YODADDA Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Hi all, First time poster and thought I would mention my RD350 F11 project. About half way through now: ZXR400 usd forks, CBR400 NC29 swinger and wheels, hand made spannies. RGV 250 curverd rad ready to fit, wavy discs and a new battery box then its strip and powdercoat time. Yodadda.
Richy Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Yellow bike below has ZXR400 front and back ends, bit of a pain to fit.
YODADDA Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Added images - poxy (proxy) server at work blocking online storage! NK Racing done the work and advised me against ZXR rear due to it being a git. More than happy with the CBR stuff and the 6 spoke wheels. Only just read the other threads about people having nightmares with NK. Got to admit timings could have been better and some little jobs were missed but can't knock the work done. As said, will update the images as I go. Y.
Richy Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 NK Racing done the work and advised me against ZXR rear due to it being a git. Yes, I told him the hassel I had with mine!!
si.likes.guiness Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 timing issues with nigel, tell me about it ive been set back nearly 3 month on the plus side the bike looks good
YODADDA Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 Been a while but here are some up to date pics. Getting into the grove again as I need this for spring at the latest.
heds954 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Looks like you've been busy any chance of some close ups and some blurb about what you've done (ie successes / failures / issues etc)?
fredie Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 very nice updates . keep up the fantastic work
2Smoke Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Looking well! (more progress than my lc thats for sure!!) Maxton shock I spy there?
YZ faybo Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Fantastic work there, love the use of different gear other than RGV. Cant wait to see what colours you are using for the body work, Yamy racing white and red I hope, full fairing? or cafe' racer? Are those some sneaky slicks you have fitted? like it.
laney Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 That looks nice,i like the cbr swing arm,a good alternative to the rgv swinger....
YODADDA Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 Thanks for the comments. Will add more pix and close ups of progress over the next few weeks. Yes - Maxton shock. I was going to go with a Nitron but this one popped up on eBay and I got it for £130! Result for the condition. Colour - some deep metalic blue I think but you never know. When plastics etc are on I may do some Photoshop work and let you lot help me decide. Fairing - Not full, I had the parts but it hid too much of the engine so got rid. Just going to use the top fairing. Not a lot of space with the fatter forks so I had to remount the fairing sub frame a bit lower and reduce the steering lock. Never been put together with levers and switchgear on - I hope it all fits. I do want the top fairing as usually people don't bother - if this works I will do some close ups to show what I did. Y
YZ faybo Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Any updates? looking forward to seeing this one finished.
YODADDA Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 The bodywork is now metalic blue, work done by my own hands and quite a few rattle cans from Halfords. As they are just placed around my garage in various stages of wet and dried laquer and t-cut there is not much to look at. Pics will be up when they are finally attached to the bike. I then have the brakes to fill with fluid and a brand new wiring loom ready to fit. Hopefully by mid Aug there it will be taxed and tested. We will see.... When done I will add more close up pics and deets about what was actually done. Y
YODADDA Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 OK fellas, do not get too carried away, this is not - I repeat not a project that is finished. I would prefer to call it built. The loom needs fitting and a bit of plumbing around the carbs but I could not resist a few pics of the first time it has all been together in 1 piece. More deets as the happen enjoy the pix! More to come when ready. Dan.
YZ faybo Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 Looking good Rekon its just needs some white and silver speed block graphics like the old plain blue R1's. Nice to a powervalve modded and not just an LC.
bud Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 looking nice bet you cant wait for the first ride
YODADDA Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 looking nice bet you cant wait for the first ride Not going to be ridden until next spring. My spraying improved from the first panel to the last now: first looks shite and last looks good. So there's another job - respray time! One of the fork stanchions needs re-chroming so I am getting the cash together to have them fully rebuilt and the bottoms powder coated at the same time. Will keep posting updates. Please, if I come out with any more excuses in March why it is not T & T and filling South London with blue plumes of smoke someone send me a virtual slap! Y
YODADDA Posted July 7, 2011 Author Report Posted July 7, 2011 OK - Sorry! Forks took 2 months to get rebuilt! Done and ready for collection - they forgot to powdercoat the bottoms. Done again - the powdercoating was shite. Done again - they put on 2 new fork tubes when only 1 was pitted, no charge so I forgave their timings. All ready for my electrical man to do his bit - his mum passed away that morning (RIP). 2 weeks away next week so I have to wait until at least August before I can make any more progress. Gotta say I do like her with no clothes on!
YODADDA Posted July 27, 2012 Author Report Posted July 27, 2012 Apologies for those who were slightly interested in this thread - I suffered from a bad case of the dreaded Project hiatus! 2 deaths, 1 house move, no garage, bike stored at a friends, house restoration, new mancave built.... The RD is now home and work will re-commence - I promise. Bike electrics man booked in, will keep ya posted. Y
YODADDA Posted February 13, 2014 Author Report Posted February 13, 2014 Before and after having new carbs fitted and a lot of dyno time at Bob Farnhams. Some dodgy components replaced as they were fooked, then look at that curve...... Did not get to ride much after this, life got in the way again. No excuses for 2014! Y
Rich Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 Hi, nice project and being a die hard LC and YPVS man one that I can fully relate to! Couple of questions though, just wondering why you went for 34mm carbs? I know you have seen a big improvement from the original dyno reading but something else must have been very wrong if you were only seeing 30bhp to start with? I would expect to see 45ish on the standard setup? The stock carbs are good for 70 bhp and really only need to go bigger if the motor is heavily tuned. Also, I'm not sure of the rear shock position? I beg to be corrected but it looks like you have a slight negative rising rate? If you look side on, the front shock mount is too high. It should really be either the same or ideally slightly lower than the arc travelled by the mounting point on the swingarm. I can see why it was done like this due to the frame tubes but it's not ideal. It actually looks like the mounting point on the arm is too near to the swingarm pivot. Mind you, in the real world it probably won't make much difference. More of an observation Look at this for comparison, see how the shock angles downwards from the swingarm due to the higher mount?
YODADDA Posted February 20, 2014 Author Report Posted February 20, 2014 Rich, thanks for comments. When the bike was finally finished and mot'd it ran but was not very nice. I always new it was going to need dyno time with carbs being addressed and thought a nice new shiny pair would look good. I left it to bob to choose what to put on. As I and you mentioned there were many issues thus the 30: power valves not working 100%, not revving past 7500, faulty parts, parts not for a F2, suspect pipes, wiring! Nothing that surprising as when I bought it as 95% finished project! half of it was in boxes. I learned the reason was that some of it was from a LC2 so would not fit! This was my first project. Anyway, after days on and off the dyno parts were replaced, tidying up was done on my work, pipes were given the ok, it made the 50 with a curve that suits me fine. I will not be limited by carbs if and when I decide I want more! Re the shock, ain't done many miles but ain't noticed anything bad. Dan
Rich Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Hi Dan, no worries - Bob really knows his stuff but just thought I'd ask as the 34s seemed a bit ott. Makes sense if you are planning more work in the future though Let's hope you can enjoy it this summer (if we get one!) Rich
