fzbrad Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 hi there new to the forum , i have recently purchased a 1985 jap spec fz750 project . unfortunately i have since learned that it may be restricted in some way . does any one out there know exactly how this is achieved and how it can be undone thanks
Andy J Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Ok,this may not be the definitive answer but here goes! Jap spec bikes in the 80s were restricted to 77bhp and 110mph. The speed restriction was usually by a wire from the rear of the speedo so have a look see. There will be the usual wire for the lights but if theres a wire that looks confusingly extra that may well be it,if you can get a look at a uk spec speedo it will be obvious where the extra wire is !!! As for the lower power output,it will probably be a combination of carbs, cams and zorst, try sourcing uk spec cams and carbs and an aftermarket zorst. Very, very possibly there could be a different cdi too. Have you tried a google search for FZ/FZR forums? They will probably have the info you need. Not much help i know but maybe it will point you in the right direction.
