DrBoom Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I've bought a set of '05 Yamaha R1 forks for my suzuki project. I want to run the 3 spoke wheel from the earlier model but the 05 model R1 had a 5 spoke wheel. Is this easy to change? The forks have the radial caliper mounts and I would like these to line up with the disks on the 3 spoke R1 wheel ideally. Is this a straight swop? Thanks
DrBoom Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Upon looking into it a bit further, the 2005 runs 310mm disks, where the 3spoke (2004) uses 298mm disks... Are the disk mounting the same?
thefatman Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Take a look here, you can look up all the disc dimensions which may be of some help http://www.ebcbrakes.com/catalogues.html
slidersguesthouse Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 as you said the discs are a diff size on the earlier 3 spoke wheel, but the spacing is the same, so the wheel fits, just the disc diameter is wrong and the discs are 5 bolt instead of 6 bolt fitment... so you can´t interchange the discs
DrBoom Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks lads. Right, the plan is fit the 3spoke wheel and get Stealth to make me a set of hybrid disks.
2639 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Would it not be easier and cheaper to run the earlier bigger dia disks, then put simple spacers under the radial calipers? Fireblade bits from 04 (? one had spacers after the disks grew) models may provide a solution for bolts and spacers cheap and easily. Bespoke disks sounds like a hasty solution. ANdy
