Flatslide Carbs on a Triumph?

Hello all! I'm in the process of modifying a 1993 Triumph Sprint 900, I've seen kits available for triples comprising of three Keihin FCR39s. Does anyone have any experience in putting flatslides on these bikes? I've experienced FCRs on my ZXR and they seem to work fine, a little tempramental down low in the rev range, but all right once they've cleared their throats. I think they'd suit the bike.

Any feedback?

Cheers!

No, but a) I know some people that have and 2) I would love to. Let me dig out some links for you. Are you doing anything else to it?

No, but

a) stuff

2) more stuff

Please tell me this is a Bill Hicks tribute

I'm doing a whole shedload of mods, its already been transformed into a café racer style bike and now I'm working out how to sort the chassis and the engine. The picture in your avatar looks mighty cool, any chance of a bigger one?

Nice one. I do like the old Hinckley triples. Link to the bike here. Enjoy.

Stunning! I particularly like that fairing solution.

Here's a link to my shed of a bike...

Superb! Was it much work to tuck the battery up in the seat? I like the subframe, really lightens the bike visually.

It was a bit of a headache, when I got the bike a few of the mods had already been undertaken, the battery was kind of half way there. I have a new tailpiece on order which is a lot lower so I may be converting to a gel battery or one of those nifty little ones I saw on the Durbahn website. I have to credit a genius mate of mine for the subframe, he created it from scratch. I think I'm going to develop it further (it needs to be a touch lower and ideally I'd like it in aluminium). As for the rest of the bike my mind is full of weird images, flatslides, ohlins suspension, billet yokes, a braced swingarm and other things...

that looks super nice, just get that number plate mounted beneath

the tail, where it actually belongs, and it is about perfect.

On the following couple of pages you can see that the numberplate has been returned to its proper place...

FCR's will work a ton better than those CV carbs!

Thanks for all your input and the compliments guys. I think I'll be chucking on three FCR39s once the suspension and chassis is sorted. Does anyone know of a good place where I can find them?

You could try Allens Performance and see if they have some FCRs. It won't be cheap though- a pair of downdraft FCR41s is around £700 or so

FCR39s do appear quite regularly on ebay for £150 or so each, but they're generally single sidedraft carbs off MX bikes. Maybe three of those could be ganged together to suit your bike? I'm at work so can't see the pics of your bike

FCR carbs are definitely not cheap but they are superb. On the other hand, ring up your Triumph dealer and find out how much a set of brand new CV carbs are! I would expect them to be more expensive than a set of FCR carbs!

FCRMX carbs might work if you can get 'em close enough together. I wouldn't tackle that unless you have a decent workshop and you can make the brackets, shafts, etc yourself though.

I've just sent Allens Performance an email regarding price and availability.

That's possibly my Christmas bonus gone...

SUDCO in the states were doing them at around £600 a set...

But was that before the pound plummeted against the dollar? And don't forget import duty too ;)

edit- Trident_Special- that's what my bonus/redundancy's going on :P Who needs to eat when you can actually bolt on some horsepower?

edit 2 - That bike is gorgeous!

Just got a quote back from Allens Performance (top marks for the quick answer).

Not cheap those things. I think I'll need to meditate on that purchase for a day or two.

The meditation has proved mucho expensive. Come January I'll be placing my order.

Nice stuff! Let me know how you get on with the Autometer rev counter as I'm looking to replace the duff Triumph item on mine.

Am looking at putting a set of FCR41s on the TRX. Agreed....not cheap........somewhere around $1500 AUD (Aussie Pesos). Had a set on my Guzzi and really made a difference! I really hate poxy CV carbs, they're worse than Dell'Ortos. I sure my CVs are well worn, even after getting a Factory Pro emulsion kit about 2 years ago. Improved the fuel range and made it a tiny bit crisper, but little else.

Absolutely love the cafe Triumph, and the delicious aftermarket goodies. Well done!
