riversbikes Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Hey PB massive. I've posted a quandry on my blog, link below: http://mbducati.blogspot.com/ The most recent entry shows two possible shock mounting options -- need to know if it will have a major impact on the required spring rate. Any help would be greatly appreciated! james
roadracer Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 If the lower shock mount is mounted further away from the rear axle(by 1", apparently), the shock will have more leverage acting on it from the swingarm. The rear axle will therefore have more travel before the shock bottoms out in this situation(good thing!). I don't think the angle of the shock matters, as long as the swingarm acts on the shock in a linear fashion. If the shock is 1"(25mm) further forward(closer to the swingarm pivot), you will need a STIFFER spring, which isn't good news for you. Generally, on a normal sportsbike with a linkage, every 14mm or so of rear axle forward-movement requires 1 grade higher spring, so technically you'd need a 2 grades stiffer spring. That's about as far as I can help without being there!!
