bikemike Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Currently rebuilding a 1990 Kr-1s, I've bought a frame which is quite nicely polished, but I fancy a more modern looking black frame. Seems a shame to coat over somebodys hard work so I'm undecided. What do you think? Thanks, Mike
Tom Mac Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 if your gonna powdercost the frame then you're gonna have to do the engine as well
rossm Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Personally I'd powdercoat it, but that's because I'm a lazy bugger and the thought of keeping a polished frame clean and shiney all the time would do my head in Ross
ml1275 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Powedercoat satin black (and the swinger) - it'll look mental. ML
SHimmer45 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 bikemike, ive got my KR1-S frame powder coated welcome to come round and have a butchers if you want
BenW Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 What do you think? Personally I think polished looks rubbish. Johnny Mac's ZXR750RR is awesome (well, it will be... ) but the polished frame ruins it for me. Then there's the fact that everytime it gets wet it'll need polishing again! B
tootall Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Scotchbrite it. Muuuch better. Polishing is for Harleys.
racerd Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 have you checked for un even barrel hight and the power valve linkages, polish the frame
GREENGOATCHOKER Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 polish it . that beautiful single spar is begging for it . it might be fashionable to spray it black now but a couple of years from now .............
heds954 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Funnily enough a similar thread was on the old site just before it sank to Davy Jones locker... BenW (PB bloke type chap) has his ZXR750R in PB's September issue (p70) and was wondering wether to stick with polished gubbins or get them powdercoated... here's the mock-up I did... HTH
dizzyr1 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 old school all day long with that one, or follow the crowd and powder coat it, hell paint it white and get some matching leathers and boots! nah not that one son....... dizzy's opininions are normally fuelled by carlsberg....... probably the best desision making tool at his desposal.....
Red Devil Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Black, black wheels and vapour blasted engine. Then again you may have guessed that I'd say that
SHimmer45 Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 have you checked for un even barrel hight and the power valve linkages, polish the frame looks even better in black not that im biased
bikemike Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 Scotchbrite it. Muuuch better. Polishing is for Harleys. Love the scotchbrite look, and how they look when beadblasted. But it is as bad as polished to keep it that way Can you laquer that finish; or, even better, is there a clear powdercoat? That would be my perfect solution. Mike
navek Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Polish it, everyones powder coating.
spacemonkey Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Don''t worry about avoiding what everyone else is doing, just decide what's best for you! And don't avoid good sense and good taste if it just happens to be fashionable.... The powder coating looks great but I would expect one nasty scratch will ruin it totally.... The polishing can look nice in my opinion but can also look a bit 'bling.' You might have to get a gold medallion! Scotch bright sounds great! It won't look too flashy and it'll be quick/simple to bring the finish back! I suppose it's basically like a brushed finish but quicker and easier.....
Acid Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 another powercoat black vote, it will look so much better with the kwack green and yellow number plates
