BMXboy Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Hi all, I have a 2000 Suzuki SV650 that has taken to cutting out when rolling up to junctions/stopping when the clutch is in. Today it has got far worst, when I started the bike this morning it revved up and then cut out, it would then only turn over. I had to bump start it and hold the throttle open to maintain revs while it all settled down. Then it went on to cut out all the way to work when pulling up to junction (i.e. clutch in rolling along at low speed). I then had to the same happen when leaving work and riding home. It also cuts out if I pull the clutch in and free coast when in 2nd gear! It just won’t maintain revs. I guess it’s some kind of fuelling issue to do with the carburettor or chock. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated. Cheers Tim

thorlz Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 may be carb icing, has it only happened over the last few days when the temperature has dropped? I have the same problems on my 750 SRAD. I find using silkolene FST pro ( a fuel additive) helps cure the problem.
monkey spunk Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 yer it could be that do you keep it outside??
Fatbloke Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 My wife had the same problem a few years ago, check the block conecters behind the left side panel for loose wires. Hope that helps. Fatbloke.
RealityRSV Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 check your spark plugs too, especially the front cylinder one which collects all manner of crud and water, which can cause the front cylinder to cut out intermitantly.
Mr.Pigdog Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Hello mate!i believe the choke mechanisms on these do get corrosion on them. From memory i think theyre on the left side of both carbs and may just require cleaning, greasing and reinstalling(little brass plungers). Also like has been said-the front plug is prone to collecting all the road crud if a fender exttender hasnt been fitted.Oh and one more thing-i've come across some where the fuel tank overflow pipe(at the rear of the tank)has kinked from people lifting it during a service and not pulling it straight again-means if it rains lots the pipe and eventually the tank collects water, ending up going into the tank!! My moneys on the choke thing
BMXboy Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 thanks all, the bike is kept outside, but it has been happening before it got really cold recently. I will have a look at everything Friday afternoon to try and solve it. Thanks for the advice
scwirral Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 used to have a carb sv. Try searching / posting on sv650,org there is loads of machine specific knoweldge there!
stretch Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 prolly not the source, but a stopgap help may be that you wind up your idle a bit for now, maybe this will stop it from dying on the ride to work?
RealityRSV Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 he could try, but i'd wager the little adjusty knob thing will be seized as well.
