jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 i started this thread on the old forum but now its time to restart it on here. i bought this bike of our very own resevoir cogs and this is what i have done with it..(not finished yet but not too far away) the day i picked it up with rgv front end and rear wheel after the powder coaters it is now almost ready for mot and this is how it looks now...
jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 oh yeah it will be sprayed in 1990 YZR500 colours when i am happy with how it runs
nzknut Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 good job! do you mean the marlboro wayne rainey colours?
jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 cheers no its the red/white/black yellow one...i do like the marlboro but they all seem to end up like that
Sean Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 very nice, who did the powder coating? Sean
jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 cheers mate reddicth shotblasting and powder coating. some of it i think couldve been a bit better but the wheels and frame i think look really good
zimm Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 nice one always fancied a 3ma.. parts availability as much of a problem as legend has it ?
jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 depends what you need really,a lot of bits are discontinued through yamaha but there are a lot of guys out there who have lots of bits and pieces,i have spent a fortune on ebay and have already amassed loads of spares myself, spare engine, spare cdi etc etc. just have to look for the stuff really...oh and visit tzr forum, made some very useful contacts on there

jammerw Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 as far as i understand there is a bit in the pipes (am having a set of spannies built for mine to go with swarbrick end cans)and there is a tab within the clocks that you can shorten (all jap vehicles restricted to 112mph) but there are myths about special cdi units that some believe and some dont,i wont know until i ride mine,,hopefully next week...gulp
zimm Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 funky .. well, pipes can be made or cut about, 180kph restriction is usually just a case of splicing a resistor into the loom, and ignition .. well.. i'd fit a programmable ignitech unit anyway (which would do the speed restriction too now i think about it).. mm .. must finish the projects clogging up my garage first .. but.. want one ... good luck with the MOT n stuff rgv bits fit in easily enough ?
geekay Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 ooooh - nice bike you've got there with some tasteful mods done to it I like 3MA's a lot, but 3XV's even more. one day...........
jammerw Posted October 30, 2008 Author Report Posted October 30, 2008 cheers geekay, hope yours is coming along too. zimm i am no engineer and its my first proper attempt at a project,so fortunately there wasnt too much messing about although the rgv rear rim is wider than the TZR the overall width (sprocket to disc)is narrower so just had to make a spacer, and the front forks and stem went in fine but as i wanted to retain the steering lock i used an R1 top yoke and clip ons and with a little work it went in nice.
Astroman Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 cheers no its the red/white/black yellow one...i do like the marlboro but they all seem to end up like that like this?
