FRYTBYTES Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Another probably basic biking probablem. Got a second hand bike 2002 Honda Hornet 600f s, and although there is some fairing certain components have like a salty corrosion on them, like they are faded or something??? I have the auto-solv stuff to try and polish them up, is that the right thing to do? If so not all the parts with corrosion are perfectly flat and i was going to try brushing the auto-solv on and brushing it off again? Should i also try this when the bike is cold or warm? and if anyone has any other tips for getting rid of this crap and keeping it away? This is my first bike and its become my pride and joy, its not an expensive high performance machine or anything but i want ot know how to look after and tweak things, this small probablem makes the bike look old i think. Anyone help?
2 smokes 4 ever Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 what are the parts you are refering to made of Aluminium will polish up with Autsol, may take some elbow grease, and some fine wet & dry abrasive paper first Zinc & nickel plated fasteners are probably past it, as one the salt has eaten through the plating is toast - replace with S/Steel fasteners Painted AL, where the coating is starting to bubble requires bead blasting and re-paint Front of the engine can be prepped with wire wheel in an electric drill and re-painted with PJ1
