Here's my NSR-D 350.....

It's an MC21SE chassis with a 350YPVS engine...

Not to mention the Aprilia RS125 oil tank, RGV tank, RS250 seat unit, side frame cradles made from GP100 frame tubes, bits of wiring from a '68 Hoovermatic Hotpoint washing machine (twin tub) and a grommet from a Tomos moped. Weight without fuel or 2 stroke oil is 135kg, which is pretty good going considering the ungainly mass of the bigger engine. The engine has been tuned to give a wide spread of power and a strong midrange, peaking at just over 70hp, which is a little more than I expected :eusa_dance:

The only work I didn't do myself was some aluminium welding and the final lacquering of the bodywork.... I think the total cost was only about £1600, though it's had a new crank and engine rebuild since then....

Smart work!! So, what's she like to ride? Have you taken it on the track yet??

Great stuff!

It was at the Cadwell two stroke day....some of you may have seen it in this state;

Cadwell1.jpg

it started making crunching noises from the gearbox, so I only manged two sessions on it :D turned out it was just the flywheel nut had loosened :P ...so yeah ML, it's all fine and dandy again...

Until I siezed it a few weeks later...too lean a needle setting :D , but a new piston and it's perfect again :), surviving a trackday at Llandow without problem. That was part of the attraction of using a 350 engine, the ease and cheapness of parts/repairs.

It handles like an NSR to be honest, weight distrubution's 51% to the front so it's not unbalanced, and the weight's quite high giving a sense of flickability, like you're very close to the centre of gravity. Plus it has much more midrange than a 250 (at least 20hp more at 8k)...straightline performance at Llandow (up to 110ish) was about the same as a modern 600.

Put it this way...it's better than I am.

top bike that mate, i remeber seeing it at the two stroke trackday, but thionk i was on opposite sessions so didn't get a chance to fullt investigate, nice work

Good work Martin.

What pipes are they ?

Also , what have you done to the engine to get 70 ?

That's pretty good for a Valvey !

Pipes are my own design and construction.... (also see Doug's Mito 350)....

foam filters on 32mm RGV carbs

NSR MC16 manifolds

modified TDR reedblocks with single petal carbon reeds

mild port work (transfers raised 1mm, usual flowing etc)

head skimmed 0.5mm

standard 31K ignition

et voila....70hp without the need to rev it excessively. It might make a bit more since the engine rebuild, and some time spent optimising the ignition and jetting could easily see it up to 73+...but that's being greedy....

Hmm ok well you come highly recommended by a certain teacher with a passion for 3xv's :D There is a 350ypvs and a tdr250 to be done, although the 350 is miles off. Can leave with you for as long as is needed. See how it goes :D
