If you can't find any damage on the tyre, try putting a small amount of soapy water on the valve. If a bubble starts to form thats where your problem lies. I've fixed this in the past with a tiny drop of 3-1 oil into the valve. Helps the rubber seal seat a bit better.

thanx pauly but i have just found a nice shiny thing in the tyre..how fucking annoying , the tyre still has about 1000 miles left on it.....

i presume a new one ......????

They can be repaired, the hole has to be 2.5mm in diameter or less and the tyre has to come off as it's done from the inside. Anything else that claims to be permanent isn't.

by the time i get wheel off , buy kit ,get garage to do it ,might as well buy new i think and have complete confidence

The bike shop that pulls the tyre off should have the stuff to fix it so no need to buy a kit. But you are right about the peace of mind thing. Not sure about the permanet fix, but the temporary fixes require that you reduce your speeds considerably.

In theory, in practice you should be ok on a plugged tyre. I've done quite a few myself now, ridden thousands of miles touring on them and done trackdays as well and never had a problem. I've used the Rema version, same as comes with BMW's and found it to be perfect. You don't have to take the tyre off, it's all done from the outside. £20 for a big box of plugs and the tools to do it and away you go. I think the speed thing is just to cover themselves against people making a bad job of it, then riding around without checking the tyre. If you do it right it loses no pressure.

I've had a couple repaired and they were fine at high speeds for the life of the tyre. £10 at my local tyre place.

When I asked the guy who repaired it about safety etc he said you have to have some sort of certificate to show you can do the job properly, not sure if that's true.

cheers guys i'll speak to garage tomorrow

Aye, as long as the hole is no further than 30mm from the centre line of the tyre, a plug type fix should be fine, even for Z rated tyres.
