Rob Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Hi all, First post, so please be gentle. I've bought myself a TZR250 and am trying to get it back as near as dammit to the one I bought brand new 20-odd years ago that had a tragically short life thanks to a coming together with a white van. Can somebody give me some pointers regarding frame/swingarm/forks/wheels, cosmetically speaking. It seems to be a choice of powdercoating or polishing, and I'm just trying to reconcile these avenues, together with the ultimate (proposed) aim of getting it to look like a stock 2MA, sticky-out mirrors, indicators, etc. Basically, what I'm asking is it really possible to make an old one look like a new one at the end of the day, or are compromises a necessary evil? Thanks for looking - bits and bobs done so far are at www.rjstech.co.uk Robbie.

KTMKTM Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Hi There, I've had an '87 TZR250 2ma since 94, and started to try to mint it like you are (after a low side a few years ago), most parts are avaliable, in various conditions, but the hardest to find in mint is obviously new body panels and original exhausts, and when you do, the price could be a little on the high side (parden the pun). Anyway best of luck, and happy hunting. Nick.
Rob Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Nick, thanks for the reply. My TZR is currently in the caring hands of Taymar Racing undergoing a complete rebuild, so in the meantime I'm still scouring ebay for bits and bobs. I agree with you on the bodywork issue - to be honest, the plan is: 1. Engine, 2. Suspension, 3. Cosmetics (so worry about them later!). To be honest with all the buying I've been doing here and there, I *might* go down the route of having one "original" bike, and another rattier go-faster/non-standard one - frame, engine and carbs are all I need to build another one to be honest, all seem to be available on the 'bay, and that quite appeals to me.... Rob.
