Hiya,I'm new to this forum lark, thought I'd dip my toe in etc...

I noticed in the mag that the project 500 was bought for £500!!! Where did he find that?Lucky sod.I know he's had it since '03 but even so what a bargain.

Reading about it prompted me to go find mine which has been buried in the garage for a good few years.Put some new tyres, brake pads, goodridge hoses, chain & sprockets on an whisked her for an mot which she passed(I say whisked but in reality I ran out of petrol on the way there and had to push her for a bit to the nearest fuel station)

Anyway I've done a good couple of hundred miles inbetween the downpours this last few weeks including two trips to Sherburn where I think it was the only Gamma there.Everybody stares at you,its right funny.

Even had a bloke flag me down begging to buy it off me,needless to say he was left at the side of the road in a cloud of blue smoke.Brilliant...

Welcome to the PB forum Dillv8,

Yep, I picked up my RG for a steal. It'd been standing for eight years and didn't run. Wouldn't turn over either. The bodywork was handpainted in emulsion. Lucky it didn't run or the paint would have washed off in the wet! The bloke didn't really know what he had - but then again, it needed £1600 worth of parts in the engine alone.

Good to hear you've dragged it out of the garage and given it some new life! That 7000rpm kick makes it worthwhile! Because it has been standing, it'd be worth taking the disc valve covers off and checking that the anti-friction material isn't lifting off its backing. If it starts to break up and gets sucked into the crankcase it can get very expensive, very quickly.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! :icon_salut:

It shows that there are such finds still out there doesnt it. Quite often these kind of deals you hear from a mate My mates brother has a bike ect never seem to appear on ebay.

I did see a Armstrong 250 rotax racer last year stuck in a shed covered in chicken shit, but the farmer wouldnt sell, he told me a lad stored it in the 1980s and may come back for it one day.

Cheers for the tip Ben,I'll add that to the list of things to do.Also gotta do something with the forks and rear shock. They are terrible.

Is yours up and running now? I'm looking forward to reading about it in the mag.

Every time I take my RG out for a spin it puts a smile on my face.. I agree with the suspect suspension, I have RGV250 forks (modified by Maxton for the RG) and 17" wheel (made a huge positive difference) and a Maxton rear shock with 4.5" wide rim and love the handling, the engine is 570cc stage 3 with Dent pipes and wolf CDI and bored carbs and it flies!! The Nova/Dent gearbox is also a huge improvement, when changing down to 1st gear it doesn't sound like the engine is about to drop out of the bike, and the peace of mind is priceless.. No-one in the USA really knows what a Gamma is so apart from the noise, it doesn't get much attention. But I love the kick from 7000RPM upwards..

Hi Gary,

what have you done to address the profile height difference between the 120/90 17 and the 150/60 17 (or 160/60 17)? Increased the shock length, or increased the length of the dogbone link? The rear will have dropped by about 20mm.

Hi Ben, Maxton made the rear shock about 20mm longer than standard and that corrected the rear. The RGV forks also lower the front a little (I don't remember how much) but the result of the 2 changes is a very nice handling RG, much much better than standard.. I run a 160 rear and a 120 front.
